Activity - Select a Primary Source from those provided and add a sentence to your introduction as to why you made that selection.

9:00 - 9:30 - Activity - Why Primary Sources?

9:30 - 10:00 - Activity - Explaining Primary Sources to Students.
1. Using the Primary Sources - The Basics research Primary Sources vs Secondary Sources.
2. Discuss in your groups the following questions:
  • How do we explain the difference to students (grade level specific)?
  • Why is it important they understand the value of Primary Sources?
  • What inquiry/critical thinking skills can you develop by using Primary Sources in your instruction?
3. As a full group, each person will be assigned one link and asked to determine and justify whether it is a Primary or Secondary Source.
